Exporting Ticket Data
Ticket data can be exported from the Posted Scale Tickets page (https://app.bulksource.com/material-sales/scale-tickets/posted). This export provides detailed transaction-level data for reporting, analysis, and record-keeping purposes.
Export Format
Exported ticket data is saved as a .csv (comma-separated values) file. If you plan to make edits, apply formatting, or perform calculations on the exported data, save the file in Excel format (.xlsx) or another compatible spreadsheet format before making changes.
Important: Editing .csv files directly can cause formatting issues or data loss. Always convert to Excel or a similar format before manipulating the data.
Importing Ticket Data
While ticket imports can be initiated from the Posted Scale Tickets page, you should navigate to the Data Import page to download the latest ticket import template. This ensures you are using the most current format and field requirements.
For detailed guidance on ticket imports, see the Data Import help article.
Building Custom Reports from Exported Data
For recurring or custom reporting needs, we recommend creating a separate reporting workbook that references the exported ticket data rather than editing the export file directly. This approach provides several benefits:
Step 1: Create a Reference Workbook
- Create a new Excel workbook for your custom report
- Import or link to the exported ticket data as a source sheet
- Create additional sheets within the workbook for your reports and calculations
Step 2: Build Report Sheets
In your report sheets, use formulas and references to pull specific columns or data points from the source export sheet. For example:
- Reference only the columns you need (customer name, product, quantity, total)
- Create calculated fields (totals, averages, margins)
- Build summary tables or dashboards
Step 3: Use Pivot Tables
Pivot tables are particularly useful for analyzing ticket data:
- Create a pivot table using the export data as the source
- Group and summarize data by customer, product, site, date range, or other dimensions
- When you have a new export file, update the pivot table's source data to refresh the report with current information
Benefits of This Approach
- Preserve the original export -- The raw data remains unchanged for audit purposes
- Repeatable reporting -- Once built, reports can be updated quickly by replacing the source data
- Flexible analysis -- Create multiple views and summaries from the same data set
- Easy updates -- Replace the source sheet with a new export and formulas/pivot tables automatically refresh
This method allows you to create professional, recurring reports without manually rebuilding them each time you export new data.
